main purposes of a globe valve, a type of linear motion valve, are to stop,
start, and regulate flow. A Globe valve's disc has two options: it can either
entirely block the flowpath or completely remove it. Traditional Globe valves
can be used for throttling and isolation purposes. These valves can be utilised
in situations when the pressure drop through the valve is not a deciding
factor, despite having slightly higher pressure drops than straight-through
valves (such as gate, plug, ball, etc.).
The
practical size limit for these valves is NPS 12 because the system pressure
applied on the disc is transferred to the valve stem. (DN 300). The exception
rather than the norm is globe valves larger than NPS 12 (DN 300). For larger
valves to open or close under pressure, the stem would need to be subjected to
extremely strong forces. Globe valves have been produced and used in diameters
up to NPS 48 (DN 1200). Globe valves are frequently used to regulate flow. To
